Gus Hansen Has Historic October Gus "The Great Dane" Hansen ended the month of October in jaw-dropping fashion by orchestrating one of the most profitable months in the history of online poker. With only a few days till Halloween, Gus was up a cool $3.2 million dollars, and despite some late losses, ended the month with winnings of over $2.8 Million. After 454 sessions, 36836 hands, and 779.55 hours, the enigmatic poker player ended the month atop the money leader board with most of his stack gained from Omaha Hi/Lo and HORSE, where he has made about $2.7 million dollars in total profit. Hansen's performance this October is one of the best in the history of Full Tilt Poker, and probably one of the best in online poker history according to HighStakesDB.com. It was a great end to a very exciting month of poker overall, not only for the Great Dane and his record earnings. Other notable milestones were set; the world record for largest online poker hand was beaten - several times! The new holder, Urindanger, claimed the spot by winning a $723k pot against Tom “durrrr” Dwan. Hansen is only one of three players to crack the 1 million mark for October and the only one to reach the $2 Million Plateau. Phil Ivey also passed the million mark at $1.9 Million, and Tom “durr” Dwan set himself up with a cool $1 Mil. Ilari "Ziigmund" Sahamies would have been up there with the three, totaling up to $1.06 million a few days before the end of October but racked up losses of about $150,000 for a still respectable $860,000 at month’s end. What is probably more glaring for Gus Hansen – aside from winning over $2 million – was the lack of drama in which he raked in the cash. None of the signature hands to be remembered this October involved Hansen, who has been become synonymous with outrageous plays and his signature unpredictable mix ‘em up style that has made him famous on the live tournament circuit. No suicidal 10-2 off-suit calls, no quad fives baiting, no QQ over JJ’s, and few notable outbursts of his trademark “That’s sick” quotes after a win – just consistent play across the board. Some of the more notable events include Dwan's remaining over $1 Million despite being on the short end of two of the biggest pots in the history of online poker. He lost a $723k pot to Di "Urindanger" Dang (KK < AA) and a $678k pot to John Juanda (AA < KK) - on the same day no less. Another notable is the record $1,2 million stack by Tom "durrrr" Dwan, and of course Gus Hansen’s amazing $2 Million-plus winnings, leaving the second placer Ivey in the dust by almost $.9 Million. Gus Hansen has over $7.1 Million in recorded career tournament earnings. He is the only player to win four WPT titles, and is the winner of the 2007 Aussie Millions Main Event. |
